Spelling tests, math homework and time with his family is a typical week for Tyler. However, when the last school bell rings on Friday afternoon; it’s all about his race.

Tyler Dayton Motorsports is a family owned business deep rooted in tradition. His grandfather ran in south Florida and Dad, Billy, tasted victory at Hialeah. Young Tyler took the wheel in the summer of 2007 in his very first Quarter Midget race.

After only five months of racing in the Junior Novice class, Tyler had 4 wins, 4 top 3 finishes and the attention of his peers. Bobby Labonte’s NCQMA racetrack hosted the Regional in October and Tyler finished an honorable 3rd that night.

The spring of 2008 was the start of many first times for our driver. The NCQMA had moved Tyler up to the faster, more challenging class of Jr Honda. He was too sharp for the novice group. Ty has the gift for seeing the wreck before it happens; making the decisions to drive past it without damage to his car. A natural skill that is rare in someone so young.

Tyler’s hard work and dedication was obvious right from the start. Mr. Harry Davis of Marc Davis Motorsports, noticed too. Lowe’s Motor Speedway plays host to one of the biggest summer series every year and Mr. Davis provided the Dayton’s with a Bandolero for the 2008 Summer Shootout. He did so well his first night at Lowe’s that the Speed Channel took the time to interview him as part of their opening night show. At the end of the summer, our driver had finished 25^th of 53 in his first Shootout. Be sure to watch for him when it airs this winter on Speed.

Tyler is still competitive in the Quarter Midgets’ Sr Honda Class at Bobby Labonte’s in Salisbury. The Concord Raceway and Lowe’s Motor Speedway host the winter series Bandolero racing until spring.
